Jerry’s love of snuggling just wasn’t wanted. 💔

But when he was surrendered to the Humane Society of Broward County, millions of people fell in love with him just the way he was. 💕

Jerry not only found his perfect home, his new family helped three other long-term shelter residents find their homes, too. 🥰

Imagine returning a pet because he loves you too much

I love that someone said, "i can't have this cat, but I'll make it easier for someone else to take him home" and just paid the adoption fee. That was probably the best they could do, but that act of kindness was more effective and helpful than they anticipated 💙

This story hits close to home for me. My ex-neighbor was a single mom who worked full tim, & had a kitty who wanted affection & attention as soon as she & her young son walked in at night. She was frazzled from her day, needed to get dinner on, deal with homework, bedtime. I am retired & was home all day, so she would open her door in the morning, I would open mine & Obi would stroll across the hall for his morning cuddles. At night he would stroll back, well petted & fed. The arrangement worked well for all involved.

I'm happy that the original owner brought the cat to a shelter instead of putting him on the street or dropping him in the woods somewhere. She wasn't the right owner, but she did the right thing by taking him somewhere he could find a loving home.

I think it’s good that the owner was honest about how she felt about too much affection instead of pretending to like it, at least now someone who likes a lot of affection can take care of her. 😊

I’m just glad they brought the animal to a shelter, so many people just abandon their pets outside. It is very sad still.

And people complain that cats are "too aloof". 🙄

Unpopular opinion: it's good when people surrender pets they're not compatible with to the shelter. It gives them an opportunity to find a family that will truly love them and

I wonder if the person who turned him in was on the spectrum and that's why they felt overwhelmed. Good on them for bringing him to the shelter instead of just abandoning him. After retirement i worked at a large shelter for 5 years and learned compassion for those relinquishing their animals. More often than not, it wasn't out of meanness but a very devastating and emotional decision. It's easy to judge harshly, but sometimes, we need to show the same kind of empathy to our fellow humans as we do to the animals.

I swear some people are so devoid of emotional intelligence. To be able to recognize that you can't handle the amount of attention your pet needs requires a lot of emotional intelligence. And to then surrender that pet to a shelter where it can find humans that can give it the level of attention it needs is THE RIGHT THING TO DO. How anyone can hate on the lady who gave him up is so beyond me. Our culture is so obsessed with pets that we have created this myth that everything is all love and snuggles and playtime, and sometimes people adopt a pet, not realizing how much work they require. Not everyone is cut out for that and it doesn't make them an bad person. I would always rather give their pet a chance at a more fulfilling life, than keep it and feel burned out all the time, leaving themselves and their pet with a low quality of life.

Respect. She didnt abandon or abuse the cat. She recognized an incompatibility. She decided to find the cat a better home. Why would you shame her for this?

I had a cat who was an indoor/outdoor cat and he was so loving and wanted attention 24/7 but with me and the people I live with being out of the house a lot and having other cats he just wasn’t getting the attention he needed. We then realized that he hadn’t come back to the house in a few days and we were super worried so we walked around outside calling him. The neighbors then came out asking about who we were calling and we told them about the cat and the neighbor said he had been in their house for the last few days. They didn’t know anyone owned him so when he just wondered inside with their kids they let him stay. We ended up letting them keep him as a completely inside cat because their kids could play with him as much as he wanted and so in the end it was a better home. So while it is so sad for this cat to be surrendered for being too loving, sometimes you just aren’t the best owner for that pet and their needs and that’s also ok

I would love that baby soooo much!! My cat isn’t as affectionate as my previous cat, and can never seem to sit still when I do give it affection so I miss being able to snuggle and have a kitty that drools on me cause it’s so happy and content 😢

I had a tuxedo cat. She was the most loving sweet cat I have ever had. She was so affectionate and could not get enough of me. Sadly she passed away 3 years ago after having blessed my life for 16 years.

At first I was outraged someone would do that to Jerry but we have to remember that some people can't handle touch. I'm glad this special boy found a good home and hope his first person is also doing well 🙏

That's so heartbreaking 🥺 poor Jerry. Cats love so deeply and get very attached, I can't imagine the pain he went through. I'm glad he found a family who appreciates him

Some people are so busy, and unfit for pets like these. The owner wasn’t cruel in anyway and probably did it to HELP the cat. I understand how the owner feels, it’s such a sad thing. But ultimately made the kitties life better and probably the past owner as well.

I live with a kitty who is "too affectionate" and it is the greatest thing ever.

I fostered a cat like this. His name was Oliver and he would look deep into your eyes and just be so present with you. I listed him as a "THERAPY CAT" bc he eased my anxiety so thoroughly and had been a boost to my mental health.

I got many calls!! I chose a family with a dad and 2 gentle sweet daughters. The man was heartbroken bc the mom had left them. The cat was for the girls but he said Oliver stuck to him like glue, slept with him every night, and had been the greatest blessing.
