What can the Ukraine Peace Summit achieve without Russia? | DW News

Leaders and diplomats from dozens of countries are meeting in Switzerland for day two of a conference trying to map out a path to ending the war in Ukraine. Russia is not at the summit, and neither is its largest backer China. Despite the prominent no-shows, Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he hopes the world would work towards a just peace.

Not all 92 countries are there for Zelensky or his faulty peace project. Majority of them, especially those from the Global South, are there out of respect for their Western economic partners. Just to show face. To be noticed that this and that were in the summit. Nothing more than that.

Before asking what so called "Peace Summit" could achieve two problems must be solved.

1) Ukraine has laws that prohibit any negotiations with Russia.
2) Zelensky lost his legitimacy after his term as a president expired in May.
