Listened to Omie Wise on vinyl some years ago. Clarence Ashley and the Tarheels was the name of the album and it was magnificent. (posted through my grandson's account!)

I'm from upstate New York and being from the northern Appalachian region I really appreciate this! I love old-time music, bluegrass, and any American folk music

"Hillbilly murder ballads are works of musical art." For sure!

My favorite ever version of this brilliant murder ballad (with Roscoe Holcomb a close second). Thank you for posting.

The opening nearly fooled me into thinking it was The Cuckoo. Is it just because of how Clarence Ashley plays? Or are the tunes similar?
