This song interpreted by me explains how no matter how much success we achieve, goals we accomplish, love we encounter, we will always have an inherent need for something deeper which I call a yearning for the divine! "Lost" is where we end up when we seek anything but God. People, pets, experiences all come to pass and our egos and our arrogance will eventually be humbled to our return to our Source.
So don't cling too hard to anything of this world because the "shine" always inevitably wears off.

14 years ago, when my son was a baby, his father dumped me for another woman. Some corporate big wig. I was devastated. I lost everything. She was quite pleased with herself. Never missed an opportunity to assert her ownership. Rub my face in it. They married soon after, she had two children of her own.
I have struggled to survive all these years since, but remained strong. I raised a beautiful successful son who loves me.
I am happy.
My son tells me now that his stepmother seems miserable. Lost her career. The kids make her crazy. On the verge of a nervous breakdown. He thinks his father cheats on her.
For years I'd hear this song in my head whenever I would think of her. The shine finally wore off. Karma.
