I've been having panic attacks all day because I have no job, a mountain of debt, and all of the certifications and degrees haven't gotten me a job despite months of applying. And I have a medical condition that insurance doesn't cover therapy for & costs me $10k+ annually. I've been listening to a few SP songs the past few days, started hearing this one in my head despite not listening to it in a while. I played it, and it's helped calm me the f*ck down so I can focus on the latest certification course I'm taking. Surprisingly relaxing.

I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that! I’m not gonna lie: I REALLY MISS DARCY BEING IN THIS BAND 💔

“Today” (1993) reflects the mood of lead vocalist Billy Corgan, who was very depressed when he penned it.

Because of such a line as “today is the greatest day, ” the tune was often misinterpreted as a hopeful one, when it was just the opposite. Corgan stated : I was really suicidal. I just thought it was funny to write a song that said today is the greatest day of your life BECAUSE IT CAN’T GET ANY WORSE.”

Being a self-proclaimed control freak, Corgan played almost all the instruments on this track.

The musician never thought much of “Today, ” considering it merely a light pop piece, whereas listeners believed it was quite meaningful.

The music video was helmed by Stéphane Sednaoui, a French photographer who directed clips for the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Garbage and U2. Billy Corgan can be seen playing the role of a guy who takes an ice cream truck into the desert. Part of it was shot at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, California, as a tribute to Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 drama movie “Zabriskie Point.” 💙🎃💚
