This fixed my slow fan. The old capacitor didn't look blown, but apparently it was. Thank you so much!

Well done video. Clear instructions. Nice that you didn't have a useless background soundtrack like a lot of videos have.

Thanks for the video. I was just able to successfully fix my ceiling fan!!! Having the multimeter helps to make sure your capacitor is the problem and also the capacitor you bought is a good one.

Thank you very much. I'm delighted to see I might be able to fix my fan myself. I do not have a meter to check current. Can I just assume the capacitor is the problem and try replacing it? Also, I wish you would have shown this "shorting out" process of the existing capacitor. I'm a bit nervous about doing it without seeing an example.

Yup mine was visibly deformed like it melted. Thanks for the explainer video.

Thank you!! I had just installed some smart controllers that are paired with Alexa, and this fan was not going the fastest speed. So trying to troubleshoot if it could be the capacitor I realized that the controller can only give the motor as much power as the speed controller allows it. So if the smart controller tries to send the voltage for speed #3 and the fan speed is set to #1, you get speed #1. Pretty doh! moment, but at least something was learned there, and now if the fans die, I know how to check the capacitors too. Great stuff!

Can I do this replacement if I am having the same problem with a pedestal fan? Thanks.

I’m about to change my capacitor. The one currently in there looks like the new one you put in. From top to bottom, the it is 5uf, 5uf, and 4.5 uf. I cant find an exact replacement. Can I get a new one .5uf above or below the old one?

All my fans spinning slow in full speed. I have replaced one fan with brand new that too spinning slow in full speed. I don’t thinks it’s capacitor issue! Any idea why all my fans in my home spin slow?

Thanks for the video. Im about to try this. have a question. I got no multimeter, my fan is also a Hunter but it got 2 capacitors. Should I change both of them? both got the same capacity

Advice please, my old capacitor has two red wires but I can only find replacements with black or black and red wires it also has the letters DB-D after the 450v but replacements I've found don't have this, my fan is a remote control one so wasn't sure if they work differently

Bought a new fan and installed it. While it goes through the 3 speeds on the remote, the highest speed seems like the medium speed. Could the capacitor on a new fan be the problem?

Does the max temp value matter? It says 90C on the hunter fan one I took out and the one on Amazon is only max temp 70C.

Can I test if the capacitor is working fine or not, without disconnecting it? Before I actually cut the wires, can I test the capacitor charge?

We had to replace the fan pull switch on our ceiling last summer. We replaced it with a 3 speed switch as that’s what was there originally. Now the medium speed is the same as low... is it possibly a bad switch or do you think it could be the capacitor?
