Lilac Wine - Lolli Wren

Lilac Wine

I lost myself on a cool damp night
I gave myself in that misty light
Was hypnotized by a strange delight
Under a lilac tree

I made wine from the lilac tree
Put my heart in its recipe
It makes me see what I want to see
And be what I want to be

When I think more than I want to think
I do things I never should do
I drink much more that I ought to drink
Because it brings me back you

Lilac wine is sweet and heady, like my love
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, like my love
Listen to me, I cannot see clearly
Isn't that she, nearly here?

Lilac wine is sweet and heady where's my love?
Lilac wine, I feel unsteady, where's my love?
Listen to me, why is everything so hazy?
Isn't that she, or am I just going crazy, dear?

Lilac wine, I feel unready for my love
Feel unready for my love.

Elkie Brooks, Jeff Buckley, Nina Simone and now you Loli Wren have performed magic with this song. Thanks for sharing your talent and the soul you put into this. Cheers!

I've been impressed with your voice when you do small examples, but it was really nice to hear it more. And I feel like this is only a snippet of what you can do. I can't wait to see and hear more!

There are very few voices that I’ve heard that have ever made me cry as a grown man. Yours is one of them. This song gets me every time.

What a powerful and controlled voice you have! To paraphrase a vocal coach I respect, "This, my fairy voice children, is a disciplined larynx." I love your decision to root your vocal performance in a traditional UK folk style. I heard references to The Cranberries and maybe even to the great Maddie Pryor of Steeleye Span. Your sustained clear notes and touches of slower vibrato drew me into the bittersweet world of the lyric, and tasteful use of multi-tracked harmonies provided a compelling musical narrative as well. The sounds were stunning and you looked winsome and winning singing them. It's quite the calling card you left us, Ms Wren; please visit us again soon!

This is simply wonderful. How I ended up here listening to "Lilac Wine" for the first time ever while trying to find reactions to Johnny Cash singing "Hurt" was a beautiful experience. I hope you continue on your musical journey here while taking us with you.
