how come cos2x is integrating into sin, is taught in another topic?

Why is it that we can integrate for example (sinx)^3 . cos(x) using the reversing the chain rule, but for a simpler looking integral such as (cosx)^4 we must use trig identities as reversing the chain rule would give a wrong answer?

I can see that the two equations for 1. are equalities on Desmos, but what is physically happening to mean it cant be integrated one way, but can the other?
