I lived and worked in China for 8 years until quite recently. I don't think that US commentators or politicians understand. China has absolutely no interest in other nation's system of government, (although they may interfere for their own ends) and this runs deep in their culture. "To make money, first you must build a road" is their saying and that is what they are doing.
