As a teenager in 1974, I took a bus from Chicago to LA, ....seeing this arch while crossing the river was one of the few memories that remain in my mind.

I remember every time I went to Downtown St. Louis, I could see the Arch in all its glory since I live here. It's so beautiful and majestic. It's weird how people who live here don't think much of the Arch but for tourists, it's different. I appreciate the Arch because it shows how the city has changed over time. It's like: The expansion of the US made it so the Arch could be built. It's just a beautiful city and a very beautiful landmark. I love you, St. Louis.

I can’t believe the Arch was only built in 1967, I always assumed it was older

One fun fact about the arch and my families history with it. My great great uncle sam was called in to make a cut to place the last piece of stainless steel at the very top because they had trouble making it fit. He made a few measurements and one single cut. Once he was done and they placed the piece, they offered a pile of the left over pieces of the arch. He got an entire truck load and came home to alabama and when he died our family scrapped a lot of it and the only piece thats left is a hatchet he made out of the stainless and its sitting in my room. Im gonna refurbish it and use it as a talking point of history that not many people know.

I have always loved the arch and now in awe of it. What a monumental project, what a piece of big art, big dreams come true.

I have been to the top of the arch and must say that it was quite a thrill. It is jaw dropping to stand underneath it and to see how massive it really is.

We lived in the area for a few years when my brother & I were little. A couple times when Grandma & Grandpa visited, we went to The Arch & the area. I still get chills when I picture one time. We were on the McDonald's Restaurant riverboat in front of The Arch, when the city's tornado sirens began blaring! The whole sky turned GREEN! If that wasn't enough, The Mighty Mississippi River was flowing NORTHWARD!!! Grandma & Grandpa decided we were in the safest spot. That decision must've been because the fact the river is the lowest point around, plus the riverboat itself had heavy, concrete decks.

Before ascending to the top of The Arch, we watched the movie of its construction. I always recommend to watch it in the museum BEFORE going up. I've since seen a documentary of it. Friends & I were talking about it a couple days ago, which is what prompted me to YouTube. Thanks so much for your video! It is very informative with refreshing reminders.

If you pay attention, the so called contesten entrys, seem to be old drawings from the old world. They were found.

For one, they didnt even know what to put inside there, or even how to get up there.

The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri is truly one of the greatest marvels of engineering of modern times. As a native to the area, every time I visit still puts me in awe - it's beauty is as majestic as it is timeless.

at 3:50, the narrator says the observation deck of arch is 65' wide. I think he means that it is 65' LONG, because the arch at the top is only 17 feet wide [on the outside].
