Mine will not go in and open litter box he will go next to it but as soon as I got an enclosed one he went in it and I've never had a problem since

Actually not always the case. Stripey👖 here prefers a closed one. It's in a corner so it's "safe" on 2 sides.

Similar to what some of the people have been saying here, my cat prefers his closed litter boxes. I initially got him an open one as a kitten and he would dig out all the litter and even go outside of the litter box. So I got him a larger open litter box and he would do the same thing. I figured he thought this was a game so I got him a closed litter box and he went in there perfectly, never went outside the litter box ever again period and so I upgraded and got him another larger closed litter box and he never went back to the open one again so I just kept both closed the litter boxes.

Yea my cats are fine using either 🤣 when the cats pay the rent they can pick their own box

Yeah this argument kind of debunks itself because if you have an enclosed litter box and it's done well The cat feels safe and knows that no predator can get to them. This is exactly the reason a cat runs to a closed secluded area if they get scared.

I have 9 litter boxes, 2 are enclosed!
Most of my cats usually use the open ones but my oldest female prefer to use the enclosed!

When I used to have the litter box in my room, I swear my cat wouldn’t use it unless I walked out the room 😆 my cats now have their own litter closet that they love and is private ❤

My youngest prefers covered, she will even keep her back to the cat door while doing her business. I think it's nice to experiment so you know what your kitty prefers, but don't force them to use something they don't like.

Well, when Mr. Kitty grows up and has a full time job and pays rent he can get his own apartment with an open litterbox 🤣. Til then my apartment will not be smelling like feces thank you very much. Love how this is pitched as a 'PSA', how absurd

Mine don't like the open litter boxes and refuse to use them, whereas they go in the closed ones with no worry at all

My cat doesn't like closed space. He's so particular and a clean freak that when he's doing his business, he hangs on to the side and do it there with only one leg down the litter to balance himself then jumps out and bury his treasure with only 2 paws inside the litter to cover them. He won't go inside even though the litter box is 3x his size and I keep it clean every single day.

It depends on cats. Some like it enclosed because they feel more safe because of the cover, it s like their shield from intruders or strangers then they dont need to look around and be nervous about getting eaten while pooping. I have open litterbox though
