Today we’re going to talk about depression and the HPA axis.

H - Hypothalamus
P - Pituitary
A - Adrenals

There is a feedback loop of communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and the adrenals. This communication turns certain hormones on and off. If cortisol (a stress hormone) is constantly stimulated and turned on by chronic stress, it could lead to burnout.

Cortisol can affect the hippocampus in the brain, which involves memory and learning. High levels of cortisol over time can potentially shrink the hippocampus affecting your memory.

If the sympathetic nervous system and the fight or flight mechanism are overstimulated over time, it can cause someone to experience anxiety and then depression. On the flip side, if the parasympathetic nervous system is dysregulated, it can cause someone to develop depression.

Potential remedies for depression from chronic stress:
1. Reduce stress
2. Magnesium
3. Fasting (combine this with ketones)
4. Aerobic exercise
5. Vitamin D
6. Rhodiola
7. Get plenty of sleep
8. Vitamin B1 (from nutritional yeast)

All facts. Dr. Robert Sapolsky from Stanford has a great video on depression too. They did a study and found those with MAJOR depression had a stress response running 24/7.

I like it better when Dr. Berg does his videos next to the white board instead of infront of a computer

Also...remember what Dr. M. Scott Peck wrote in his book "The Road Less Traveled" that "depression is a fear of loss". I have also experienced depression chemically when I was an auto body repairman using certain paints. Thanks Dr. Berg!

I feel bad for all of the kids that have had to stay home, still even now. Kids want to be around each other and feel stress worse than we do. There are so many depressed kids right now, its not right, it is not okay.

As we enter our 16th month of the year 2020… ah hem… I can’t imagine why depression would be a problem.

Yes Dr Berg fasting is great. Just finished my 90 hour fast. I feel great, ran my errands, went hiking, did sit upstairs, drove for 6 hours... I feel pretty good and strong. I did take my electrolytes and B vitamins tho. I also stayed hydrated with water.😊 I feel good!

Fasting is incredible for anxiety

In my opinion, anxiety is caused by sugar

I want Karen back!!!🤗💃Your lively spirit is noticeably gone and we're left lacking...that's depressing! She always perked things up with humor, which serious learning can benefit greatly!!!

Mr Berg, would you share your knowledge and view on micro dosing of psychedelics? People who suffer from depression, addiction, anxiety should get educated, we really need to talk more about the potential of these demonized substances.
