Man of Steel was a promising start to the DCEU, but then Batman v Superman came out and that's when everything fell apart. The DCEU is similar to the Transformers franchise, as Transformers was a promising start as well, both Man of Steel and Transformers were good movies. The worse ones came for both franchises with Batman v Superman and Transformers 2 and the rest. I lost faith with both franchises: DCEU and the Transformers series, but both Man of Steel and Transformers were both good and enjoyable films. This scene in Man of Steel of Zod's message to the 🌎 about Superman among them is very chilling, with that feeling of dread and fear.

As much as I like this movie, I'm in agreement that Superman's pre-suit characterization shouldn't have been so downtrodden. Imagine if we'd followed Clark through basically a sheltered upbringing: a peaceful, pleasant life marred only by the passing of his father, but through which he was still able to summon the hope and gentle resolve to carry on as he had been raised to do.

Then Zod arrives. And suddenly there's a sense of horror, uncertainty, even apocalyptic intimations.

I'm also of the opinion that Zod should've been an endgame villain for Superman (Supes specifically, not the Justice League). Watching his coup and exile on Krypton, getting tidbits of info alluding to his activities and movements through space via Dr. Hamilton and STAR Labs as Superman deals with the likes of Luthor and other terrestrial threats, and then we finally get the arrival of the exiled general.
