Captain America: Best and Worst Live Action Costumes

Captain America is Marvel’s oldest successful comic book character who’s definitely appeared more in live action than most of the rest of the universe starting in 1944 through the 70s, the 90s and finally the 2010s and 2020s with the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he was pretty much perfected on screen… but what about the iconic costume? Well, that’s what I’ll be looking at in this video, the 15 different live adaptations of the Captain America costume and rank them from worst to best even if the vast majority of them are all from the same franchise and worn by the same actor.

I find the Avengers suit to be fascinating. Because I don’t feel like it is horribly cheesy, and yet something feels so off about it.

The First Avenger outfit is still the best all those years later, the right amount of drip and praticallity. Civil war suit also looks good, 2nd place

My favourite captain america suit is the AOU suit. I love the balance of blue and red on the suit. I also have to disagree with your statement regarding the red lines making the suit look busy, I find that they make the suit look more striking and detailed. I particularly like the two red lines opposite the Star, it adds layers to the design and whilst the mcu is notorious for adding unnecessary lines to their suits (cough, Spider-Man stark suit cough); I think it works in this case. My second favourite suit is the civil war suit with endgame being third.

personally, if the Endgame suit looked more like Age of Ultron’s suit with the scaling AND an actual shade of red on the suit instead of Maroon. If the suit was also a brighter blue, prob would have been better

the scales throw it off for me tbh, i feel like if they did carbon fiber like the helmet it would give a similar effect but making it more realistic.

Funny how the ones that fans keep wanting to call "the best ones" in the MCU are the ones I consider to be the most overrated, but then maybe I've always considered the more overly grounded and muted costume design in some modern comic book movies to be overrated in general, not helped by the fans who think that's what all comic book movie costumes should have to look like today.

I still like and appreciate the 2012 suit for wanting to be a more faithful translation of his most iconic uniform, and for the most part it's much closer to how I would envision seeing that classic design brought from comics to screen. Though I will admit that maybe if they didn't try to go for the cowl and kept the helmet instead then people might have had less problem with it overall. Still, it's like they try to be faithful to his classic comic look without having to be literal spandex (which was done to look cheesy intentionally in The First Avenger) and people will still want to complain about it cause they don't want a *faithful* look for the character.

Even if they had just kept the same main suit from First Avenger for the rest of the MCU I would have been fine with that, but I'm just not into the design of his Civil War/Endgame suits. I could also get by with the idea of the stealth suit in Winter Soldier being a variation worn for certain missions, but not as the definitive look for the character for me.
