Australia's top spy recently reported attempts by a 'foreign power' to influence the 2019 elections. Why is Beijing desperate to meddle in politics down under? Palki Sharma tells you.

Furthermore while I'm not in the Intel community, from my understanding of numerous investigations, Yes we have politicians who are under the influence of not just the Chinese, but also American, British and Russian governments.

Dear Palki Sharma Upadhyay,

You should do an episode on the Manchurian Candidates in India from the days of Nehru. Communist party split in 1961 over whether it should follow USSR or China. CPI followed the USSR and CPI(M) followed China. Neither party had India for its loyalty.

Nearer home, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi visited China during UPA 2, and signed some agreement with China or with the communist party. Since then, Rahul Gandhi has been hobnobbing with China, visits Chinese embassy, condemns Indian government in the context of tensions with China. I don’t know how many millions he has taken from China during the last decade plus period. Politicians don’t bat for anyone without some gain for themselves.

We have loose electoral laws, and practically no data security. I suspect that China has been meddling in our elections since 2014. We also don’t know how many private universities and think tanks have been receiving Chinese money indirectly. Foreign Contributions Regulation Act been made stringent only in the last couple of years.

We have no dearth of Manchurian Candidates. Please do some episodes on this issue.
