FTR is just my daily reminder I don't suck at fish tanks, while also reminding me I suck at fish tanks

I recently started working at the LFS that I frequented for 5 years back in November. I walked in one day and the store owner told me he had been meaning to call me and wanted to know if I wanted a job there. Your channel is actually one that I reference a lot and recommend to beginners who don’t know much but want to learn more. In all of my working life, I have never loved a job more than this one and it brings me so much joy to be able to point people in the right direction when taking care of fish. The most common phrase from you that I say is “if you can pick up your tank and walk away with it, it’s too small.” Thank you Chirs, keep up your good work! ❤️

(Edited to correct chirs’ name)

Garden pond: that's probably real. Mine is a smaller version of that. Yes leaves land on the surface, and eventually soak up and sink, so some floating, some on the bottom. The pond (top view) clearly has some open water.

We use stock tank or pond heaters to keep the water from freezing in the winter. I have goldfish and fathead minnows (native to the US east coast) and they're fine with cold water, as long as it's liquid, not solid.

I've got elodea, American lotus (late spring through fall), some duckweed and algae.

FTRs are the fishkeeping videos I find the most motivating and inspiring ! I really enjoy seeing all the great things others built, and the bad ones too because I can feel good about myself 😆
QOTW : I've challenged myself to completely quit alcohol for at least 3 months !

An ftr right when I needed it.
I had to leave my fish tank for a week and came back with tons of allergy on my plants because my mom forgot to turn off the light 🤦‍♀️and an ammonia spike, so I was rushing the water change :(

to the mantis shrimp one it’s not uncommon to find them hitch hiking in live rock and live sand I only know this because i used to want a saltwater tank but then i saw how much it would be and how hard it would be and i decided to stick to fresh water and palladiums (I probably spelt it wrong) 😅

Always a good start to my Monday when the Maple Story music starts playing! I remember seeing a Japanese video of a guy making a scape for his snakehead and falling in love with the fish, only to Google and find out it's illegal to keep in Canada. I know that feeling. :')

QotW: my plan for this year is to make an aquaponics system and start growing some herbs, vegetables, and beans because grocery prices are insane.

FTR has educated me so much in terms of aquascaping, and it's nice to see other tanks that I can take inspiration from.

Buenos dias FTR crew!!! Wishing all a radically positive and productive week!! Maybe we should make our new years resolution be to never miss FTR and our water changes/ top offs! ✌️

I laughed when there was a school lockdown, but I screamed when my mom said "Lucky bamboo in a vase with goldfish."
We have a good teacher in our school too. Someone was building a stand for their fish tank, but then the teacher came and was like "That cannot hold the weight of a proper fish tank. WHY DOES IT ONLY HAVE ONE LEG?"

Well, a friend gifted me a 'rundown blue police box' (because the TARDIS is trademarked) and I intend to use it in a future project! Something with blue shrimp and little blue fish. Or perhaps a blue betta or something. Maybe he's/she's/they're The Doctor!

My favorite thing about fish keeping hobbyists . is how they seem to know both everything about fish and nothing about fish. Like they are able to identify individual breeds of guppies based on subtle differences in tale colors and at the same time can’t identify a dragon fly larvae

Great video!

That fishtank stand that someone built. Looks great, but really needs centre supports so bad.

I stopped by Petsmart looking for a job and she said they weren’t hiring. But half of the tanks had dead fish and there was 1 cashier with 5 people waiting. If they had enough people, they weren’t doing their jobs! 😡

More New Year's goal than New Year's resolution: attempt breeding some fish for my local fish-keeping community. I live in a pretty rural state and having more variety locally would be amazing for everyone. Right now, I have to drive an hour to my LFS and if they don't have something, I would have to drive 4 hours to the next closest LFS, which would be in another state.

🎉 Happy New Year!
QOTW I don’t do resolutions, but do look at goals I want to accomplish. One of mine is to journal at least twice a week.

Mantas shrimp are often a hitch hiker on live rock so as a baby, they generally blend in. .

The imagery hits hard at 9:17. I found out my aunt has started fish keeping...

She has a 10-gallon tank, bright pink gravel. Stocked with 8 GloFish Tetras, and 2 zebra angelfish.

I am not a fish-keeper, but after watching so many FTRs 😬🤢🤯😵

QOTW:
I never make or keep resolutions but I do have vague plans. I bought myself a 32.5 Fluval Flex for myself for Christmas. Over the next few months, I'll be buying all the substrate and plants I need and slowly start building a tiny water jungle. I'm replacing my decades old, horrible, tall, hexagon tank that was popular in the 90's for some strange, unknown reason.

Pro-Tip for all you new aquarium keepers: You're still going to see these tanks pop up now and again at yard sales and such. Do not put fish in them, they just plain suck for most fish. Are too tall for most lights to effectively grow anything more than anubias and moss and are just a pain to clean. I think I'll be converting mine to a terrarium for my nepenthes and some other, high humidity plants.

Dude. Leaves don't fall all the time and they sink pretty quickly once in the water. That's a fresh load of leaves on top of a pool that wasn't covered in leaves a week ago.
