This video comes in a good time, I've just been sick for 3 weeks and the fitness loss is very noticeable... But hey that's life, happy to get back to it, slowly but surely

This was perfect timing, I was just about to do my first swim workout in about 2.5 months today!

I've lost it all after moving states. No pool, no support, it's tough finding a new groove.

This actually gave me some motivation. After last season, I took what is now 4 going into 5 weeks off training completely. Unmotivated to be honest. Time to get back in the gym. Thanks for telling me to stop being a slacker!

Great video guys...I took around 3 months off from my last ironman 70.3 and I definitely noticed a big drop all round. Heart rate was through the roof V02 dropped 15 points and endurance was low. Been training now for 3 weeks and I've had a massive improvement in all areas HR dropped to what I was during race season pace increased almost back to peak and strength almost back. Loving the training programme and cant wait for Bolton ironman in july.

I've been swimming for almost as long as I can walk but when I went away for uni I guess I needed a break so I didn't do any sports for two years. When I got back home I started swimming again and got back to the level I was at when I quit within three months. That was a really helpful experience for me because now I don't stress out too much about missing a couple of training days because of illness or injury.
I have to admit though I have to take a break right now because I had a bad fall when ice skating four weeks ago and messed up my knee(nothing too bad apparently) and I'm itching to get back into it. Just got off meds and my knee feels good again though so I'm going to give it one more week before I (slowly) start training again. Can't wait!

My training schedule hit due to bad AQI levels (300+) in my city. My last time run : 3 months back 😭. Although I am doing yoga now.

Haha I was a champion triathlet in the mountain bike division in central Florida. My wife was sick but definitely my support team. Long story short...she was pregnant. Haha 36 weeks pregnant! We had 2 weeks to get ready and my season had just started. Took the championship again that year and havent raced since, that was 4 years ago. After rehabbing a pinched nerve I finally got the lead out and ive got 85 days til my first come back race.

Fun science fact: When your muscles gain in size, they create more nuclei to accomodate making more ATP/RNA and other microbiology things. Not exercising will eventually lead towards atrophy, or the reduction in size. However, you will still retain those nuclei, even if they aren't being used. Here's the fun part: when you start to workout again in the future, the cells/groups will again hypertrophy, or gain size, and the nuclei you built towards the outer areas of the muscles will become active again! I personally have a fitness habit that will come in swells. I'll do good things for my body for a while, then I'll remember how comfy the couch is, and what the TV is intended for. Later, when I begin to exercise again I'll have the slug-like feeling for a while, but soon return to a state that I was in before.

I noticed this myself as wel. Haven't trained for about two months, the first couple of training days were slow, but I'm back at my old pace after about two weeks of training

Brilliant video! The age thing is so true, 48 now and having had gout/arthritis in joints, chest infection and other illness, my running threshold and speed has gone BUT that's life..Ive excepted that regression is part and parcel of triathlon..I still love the sport..just at a slower speed! :-)

Thanks for putting this together. I hit a small bump after the Xmas holidays and have been trying to find my rhythm again.

When I look at my power curve right now I'm sometimes 40W under what I achieved last year and I know I've reached some of these values several times in a single ride. While running fitness is easy to maintain to me I find bike and swim abilities fade away super fast when volume goes down and it's hard to get it back!

+ the weight you put on in 2-3weeks if not training. The ticker will max out first runs back. Slow long runs to lose or fast

I'm digging the way that Felt bike looks at 4:14. 👍

I think it’s also important to say that it will take many years to lose your form if you ever do. If you have spent a ton of time swimming you aren’t going to look like a drowning giraffe if you get back in the pool. Sure you won’t be at the same level of fitness you once were but you will still retain the skills and form that was drilled into your head thousands of times

I’ve been out of swimming & cycling for about 8 months after a broken wrist, still not ready to get back in the pool but I hope to cycle again in the spring.
