Looks so good. Love the Irish Red style and 4.8% abv is just about right. Great job with the brewing and educational video too— you’re a teacher at heart. Thanks for sharing with us on YouTube, and Happy St. Patty’s Day!

Great job, thats a gorgeous pint! My Irish Red this year ended up being about that color as well. Its a great option for St Pattys day if you don't have time for stout either!

I like it. Red Ale has been my target beer for recipe formulation for over 10 years. I have made a lot of really tastey beers. I just never wrote any of them down.
Took a break from brewing returned with "brewfather".
So far I have found 2 directions to take it which both work.
Trad Red Ale: Pale ale malt, plenty of unfermentable caramels, "steeped" chocolate malt for colour. Challenge/Target +EKGs.
Outside the box Red Ale: Pilsner malt. Vienna/Munich for body. Chocmalt for colour (steeped!). Crystal for caramel hit... USA hops, Cascade and Centennial. Enlglish Ale yeast. Pressure ferement.
The later creates a whole pallete of complex flavours which just aren't expected. A bit like "Cafferies" from ireland. It's got a bit of lager clarify, a strong caramel nose and taste, but wonderful fruity citris hops. Almost a Red IPA/Lager?
I can give you brewfather links if you want, but I think you can yolo it.

Just kegged my first beer batch. I went with an Irish Red Ale, I felt like it was a good steady beer to dip the toes in haha. Looking at your red ale I am definitely ready to enjoy it.

Being new to water profiles.. is there a translation from ppm to grams by chance? I have Gypsum, Calcium Chloride, Epsom and Calcium Carbonate available but not sure how much to use of any or all of these - need to learn more, thanks for the video. I am going to use your recipe

90 minute boil may also add some maillard component too. It looks delicious.

Could you explain how to do the water profile? I'm having a hell of a time trying to put it together. How do I figure out how much water salts to put in as additions calcium chloride. Gypsum ect ect

I know sounds CRAZY... but I only recently discovered that 90 minute boils actually SAVE time on my brew days. I get a TON more staged, cleaned, and put away with the extra boil time before all hell breaks loose on the chill & transfer.

did you mash the Roasted Barley for 60 minutes as well?

Challenger @ 60mins and Fuggles @ 10mins, what this mean? After 60 mins add Challenger and after that wait 10min to add Fuggles??

The Irish didn't use crystal malt, because that was imported from Britain and was expensive. So they used roasted malts instead. Can't know for sure, because I drank O'Haras which was sweet and malty, not roasty. One of the best beers I've drank.

In the video you said Guinness is carbonated with Nitrous Oxide…pretty sure it’s Nitrogen.
