As an indonesian, Jakarta is everything wrong about urban design. Lack of public spaces, heavy emphasis on car/motorbike ownership, unregulated street vendors cluttering the streetwalk, barely existing drainage/plumbing system, and lots of empty apartments because everyone wants their own house creating cramped and inhospitable neighborhoods. I used to work as a mechanic in jakarta then i quit, 5 hours of daily commutes was mentally draining not to mention everyone on the road was aggressive and rude. Now i live in small town of kudus in central java and i feel so much better

Jakarta and its satellite cities have overpopulation problem. 35 millions are living in JABODETABEK area, that number is bigger than whole Malaysia's population. Let that sink in. This is why even as a born and bred Jakartan, i support the decision to relocate the capital city to Kalimantan.

High economic growth come at a cost. If a city is not meticulously planned and build it will crumble. It will take years of planning, building, enforcing and a gigantic budget before Jakarta can overcome it's problems. Military precision will be needed.
