Can we just take a moment to acknowledge the fact that her makeup is ALWAYS so gorgeous!? Like I enjoy her looks just as much as her book content, and she is not even here for that. Elliot would you be down to do a makeup and books video where you do your make-up to match a book while you review it? lol very specific request, I know.

My TBR is so long that these DNF videos are helpful. You're saving me some time! That said, I have to thank you for making my TBR longer with your love for the Winnowing Flame trilogy. I just finished it and really enjoyed it. I recently read several long fantasy series in a row (Banished Lands, etc.) and I was looking for a change of pace. That series is, as the book cover says, "inventive" so it worked perfectly. I would never have heard of the series but for your channel.

Hahahaha Elle yeeted Fate of the Fallen before even reading it. Jessie poisoned your mind! It's it's a fun book that you can't take very seriously. It's certainly not going to win any awards.

I finished The Queens Rising and I totally agree with you. I think the only reason I finished was cause I felt bad about DNFing it. I will say, the best part came later as there was a big battle scene. The writing is beautiful, but it was not very unique and just your average epic fantasy for me. Definitely won't be reading the sequel. The Jasmine Throne sounds intriguing to me, and I don't really mind not understanding/knowing about the magic system.
We're almost to 1 mil! Congrats. 🎉🎉

I also wished I loved the Red Queen series as well. I have been holding onto them for years, hoping that I would finish the series since I hate to DNF, but I finally convinced myself to unhaul my Red Queen books. I read three of the four books and I really don't have the motivation or the desire to finish. Hopefully, like you said, someone else can find them and love them. Thanks for sharing Elliot!

I agree that Jasmine Throne is not fantasy romance if that's what people want and I know lots of people who read her duology were expecting more romance in this one and it is important but very slow burn and not the focus.

I'm over a hundred pages into Jasmine Throne and I totally understand the "I'm so confused about the magic" feeling you had. However I'm really enjoying the exploration of the world and the characters' struggles. To your point, if anyone is looking for a book similar to this but with MORE sapphic romance elements, I might recommend The Unbroken by CL Clark. I really felt the sexual tension btwn the 2 mains in that book, and the magic made more sense (at least to me).

I do enjoy unhaul videos!. I actually unhauled about 20 books today as well- it needed to be done to conserve space.

Honestly, the last 100 pages of The Jasmine Throne was the best part of the book. It was veryyy slow getting there though! I did like the ending enough to pick up the 2nd book when it comes out

I'll admit, The Queens Rising is not for everyone. If you want to give the author an another try, Sisters of Sword and Song is the best place to go. It has a similar writing style, but it's a very different type of story with great lore and sisterhood.

I'm sad to hear you didn't enjoy the Queen's rising. I do agree with the critism you have about trusting people way too soon but I enjoyed some or the twists and turns that happens afterwards very much. And the second book kind of does mention your issues about accepting her as family. I really enjoyed the main character's personality, she wasn't brain dead making stupid decisions because plot reasons.
