The rub is where you join the line. Vivek thinks that gay couples should be denied marriage if their town clerk holds a religious hatred of gay people. He prioritizes conservative religious views over their antithesis and thats where he, and most modern Republicans, get the constitution wrong.

If Vivek had taken the civcs test he would know the constitution protects the right to practice a religion and also the right not to practice a religion.

The evangelical town clerk doesn't get to use their religious beliefs to decide who gets a marriage license

There are 2 models of secularism both in which all religions are treated equally one in France and one in let's say India. ( i am not too sure about the countries don't argue regarding that see the idea of the comment)
Case study:-
1)France/China:- A muslim kid has to eat pork and a hindu kid has to eat beef because that is what has been cooked in school today regardless of his/her beliefs however they will not be treated any different to a christian/jew etc etc and also festivals and places of worship are discouraged.
This is hardline secularism and what Vivek was trying to say he was against but the reporters didn't let him finish.
2)India:-A muslim kid will not have to eat pork and a hindu kid will not have to eat beef and people are free to celebrate festivals and wear religious symbols.

Note that secularism DOES NOT mean people are necessarily free to practice their own religion.
It means the state won't interfere in anyone's religious choices and will try and stay out of religious conflicts

The second line is different from the first in the sense that state can be secular and discourage the concept of RELIGION as a whole without going against any one religion. Many people have the preconceived notion that the first and second line are the same however there is a MASSIVE difference.

Really? Getting a GOVERNMENT job and then refusing to perform your duties (issue a marriage license to a gay couple for example) is somehow infringing on your rights? Give it a rest.
