CYCLING THE CHERRY BLOSSOM SEASON IN JAPAN

Cherry blossoms are a highlight of Spring in Japan. The cherry blossoms typically start blooming from around Golden Week which is at the start of May in Hokkaido. From Furano which is located in the Central Hokkaido region, there is a great 60 km loop where there are a number of blossoms lining the road.

First there is the road which heads up to Rokugo, then cycling from Higashiyama. The last spot is a park which is located at the base of the Ashibetsu mountain.

On this particular day, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom around Rokugo which is a 100 meters elevation higher than the valley. Most of the trees had finished blooming around Higashiyama but there were still a few showing their pink flowers.

We had morning tea at Enwadou Donuts and Coffee in Higashiyama. Highly recommended!

日本の春の風物詩といえば、桜。北海道では5月上旬のゴールデンウィーク頃から咲き始める。北海道の中央部に位置する富良野からは、約60kmのサイクリングコースがあり、道沿いにたくさんの桜が咲いています。

まず六郷へ向かう道、そして東山からのサイクリング。最後は芦別の山のふもとにある公園です。

この日は、谷から100mほど高い六郷周辺で桜が満開でした。東山周辺では、ほとんどの木が咲き終わっていましたが、まだ数本、ピンクの花を咲かせていました。

カフェ五稜郭でランチを食べましたが、本当にいい雰囲気です
