What Does K_m Represent?
• It is an inverse measure of enzyme affinity for the substrate:
• Low K_m → High affinity (enzyme binds substrate tightly, reaches half-maximal velocity at a low substrate concentration).
• High K_m → Low affinity (enzyme requires a high substrate concentration to reach half-maximal velocity).
