Dean didn't rehearse, got to taping on Sunday, listened to the run through of the singing guests and then did it, in one take, and it was often spot on. Even when it wasn't Dean used it to have fun as when his mispronounced "Potato chips." Very few performers could do this one take, but Dean made it fun with his charm, laughter and sense of humor and timing. We just don't have anyone near this level today. Would the world be a better place if we had less "Celebrity" and more talent on TV today?

These were people who honed their craft on live stage; sadly that is no longer true of most entertainers who create their music in sound studios, not on stage. So we may never again have these kinds of shows: Dean Martin, Ed Sullivan, Hollywood Palace, etc.
