☘️ Pantry Organisation 2.0: I Ditched My Old Setup For This!

This pantry transformation has revolutionised how I store and access food. My pantry is now much more organised and efficient. And it looks pretty great too! (Even if I did have to sell my soul a little in the process. 😅)

Is it the ultimate pantry setup? No. But it's a lot better than it was, and it's heading in the right direction. Meal prep is now much easier, as is finding what I need. I saved space, reduced food waste, and have a clear view of all my food.

So, as a lazy person myself, I use the plastic containers for flour and sugar BUT! I don't decant. I just toss the open bags in the plastic container. The stops critters, stops the mess and doesn't have my food touching the plastic. I just drop the open bag in the container. Voila! Also I've missed you. Happy Belated!

I suggest writing the expiration date on masking tape and taping it to the bottom of the container for items you don't use quickly.

Laura … the trouble is NOT YOU! Most kitchens are ill equipped storage space and design wise. I’ve yet to find a solution. And I’ve tried so HARD. I’m the eldest of five sisters - and we all struggle. Our homes are all just as challenged! So don’t feel you’ve failed in any way. It’s such a challenge- if only ALL cupboards were standardised, accessible and functional and containers designed to fit! Hang in there 😂. Though I have to say - your slide out shelves are genius. ❤

Also, for the label, I label both the side and the top. This way, when you have your container out and you're using it, sometimes you set the lid aside and you don't want to accidentally grab the other item, (say you have flour and sugar out or two types of flour out), you don't want to accidentally grab the wrong item.

I cut the expiration date off the packet and sellotape it to the container xx

I worried about my 40th. Then when it happened i realised that I was only one day older than i was the day before. Never worried after that

Laura, I was 60 last December and I felt my life was over. In reality life is great, Ive got through the menopause and my 3 Children are all grown up and they constantly make me proud. Ive got ocd and 5 beautiful cats so Im constantly busy and Im loving it. So life gets better honestly. ❤

I am pro decanting because of living in places with mice and other pests that will get into anything in cardboard or thin plastic. Even if the mice didn't want the food, they would use the cardboard for nesting purposes. The joy of living in a rural or semi-rural area. Currently have a few cats who are great pest control but plastic or glass containers are huge resource savers for me. But I don't decant stuff in pest-proof packaging.

Great to see you back! You commented that you had done all the things you are supposed to do, college, career, house, marriage and child so now is the time to do what you WANT to do. Someone here said they don't decant but they put the bags etc into the containers. I agree with that idea too. You can put multiple flours into 1 container rather than many small ones. This way the expiration dates are on each product and you will probably recognize the bags rather than reading a label and making sure the label is facing toward you. Just an idea to consider.

Age is a state of mind so don't fret about it! Declutter those thoughts! I had some of my best adventures in my 50s! I'm in my 60s and still feel like I'm 20.

Alton Brown usually has good recipes and videos that explain all the whys of things. A note though I always make sure the cinnamon rolls are touching even with the tube ones they get hard and dry if seperated.

Oh goodness, yesterday I was reflecting on how young I was at 40, as I looked at photos taken then. That was 21 years ago, and I certainly haven't slowed down since then!

I have decanted for decades, it's amusing to see it on trend! I abhor packets in the pantry.

I do decant anything in paper or cardboard. I started doing this when I moved to Florida at the recommendation of our exterminator. Apparently bugs love cardboard and the glue used to stick it together. There will often be bug eggs in there that are not easily seen. That was enough for me to change my ways.
I love your videos because they show The process. Not everything works, not everything is perfect. That is real life and how projects usually go. It reminds me that it's okay to make mistakes and not be perfect like many videos. Thank you for being real!

My life began at 40 is what I always say. I’m 68 and retired two years ago and I’m enjoying life every single day. We have 4 kids, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

Don't sweat your 40's. You're doing great. You look beautiful and there's still a sparkle in your eyes. You can still be child-like at heart without being childish. Go take on your world.

I'm not a big decanter supporter. I only decant what I want to stay fresher longer. With my life, baking gets put on the back burner a lot. So I make sure to decant my different sugars, flour and cocoa. I also decant my cereal (not all family members) because I only eat it occasionally. It all stays fresh and there's no last minute scramble to the store to buy new. Everything else, no decanting. It stays in it's original packaging.
