Thanks for doing the follow-up. Much better method! Great video.

Thanks Rob that was an accurate comparison. I have always ground my pencil tips into sharpened edge tips and felt it penetrated better than pencil

Very interesting Rob ! It proove what we feel in water.

Thanks for doing a force or pressure test. I am glad to see the difference in tip performance, and will be sticking to using only tri cuts for those big game fish.

Really enjoy these videos. I take it that the acuteness of tha angles are the same. From a practical point of view, i have found it much easier to cut an acute angle in a round tip using a grinder.

Thank you for this video! Another interesting test would be a vertical drop test in a body of water with identical ends of a short shaft ie a uniform length of dyneema as a kite tail to see which one potentially deflects more or slows down more over a unit distance. As a dentist, we use a multi cut hypodermic due to superior penetration if administered with the proper transcutaneous puncture speed. Also we use different types of suture needle tip either cutting or round depending upon tissue types and there is an indication for each. I would think the harder the species target ie head shot, cutting may be of advantage and softer body targets round would produce less tissue damage. Is this correct? Bravo Rob et al ! Cheers

I would be curious how the results would differ after the tip has been blunted a little bit. I'm guessing the tricut may start working a lot better in this regards with the secondary sharp edges. Perhaps dropping them both on the floor to simulate rock strike, and running the same test after could be cool. I'm often around reef and end up with a blunter spear mid dive.

I think it would be interesting to check the friction on both the pencil and tricut through the water and how much force is at the target before penetration

The best test will be if you use PE plastic 3-4 mm.

..riffe ice-pick sliptips had pencilpoints for many years. recently they started making them with tri-cut. would be nice to know why they choose to do that..

Penetration is obviously very important but myself I would tend to favor accuracy and I would only guess that the pencil tips tend to be more accurate, especially after filing a tricut by yourself by hand in the field.

Good Video, but your pencil-point looks very different to the ones I have (Salvimar, devoto sub, Sigal sub), the one you have made has a shorter stubbier tip. My ones all have much longer tips which I think will perform much better in these types of tests. Personally, I prefer pencil point as I find them easier to sharpen.

Can I board a plane if I tricut my pencils?

Never knew y'all checked comments and stuff but I must know why y'all never made a double roller as coatsman customized your guns

Tri-cut and pencil point spear poorly penetrate thick fish scales, because they are round wire section. Only chisel type breaks fish bones and scales .

Useless information if you don't include the barb.
