saw a prototype of these being used in the Sony HT-A9 Commercials, that and other random showings for 2 years make this an instant buy for me, finally a Sony Open back after MDR MA900 was long discontinued.

They look great, I want to try a pair but I don’t know what makes them more special for spatial audio than the MDR-Z1R?…which already has great imaging and soundstage

Im just glad that with this out, many Sony backed studios have a better headphones to monitor with, 7506 and V6 are legendary but are way less comfortable and frankly sound meh in modern standard, true that Sony have MDR M1st out and that barely make a dent on studio headphone market but hey this one is actually tuned differently adn for different use case from manu of studio headphones, enough that people who want bass would probably be better served here than on other headphones.

Hilarious seeing Sony shill these cans for 400% the cost of their legendary MDR-7506 by claiming that it's ideal for "360 Reality Audio" - that is absolutely not an added feature of stereo cans with merely two drivers for left and right audio. It's just Sony taking your money again...

It looks nice, but not $400 nice. They'd have to be better than the XM5's for me to consider.
