My GAME CHANGING self care realization!

Here's my game changing self care realization from our MedCircle Live Class with triple board certified neuropsychologist Dr. Judy Ho—all about science backed self care!

For those of you who don't know me—I'm Kyle Kittleson, the host at MedCircle.

I've done hundreds of interviews with dozens of the world's best psychologists and psychiatrists. Even with all of these interviews under my belt, I've been looking at self care - and its mental health benefits - all wrong for years. This realization from our MedCircle Live Class really clarified what self care is all about.

00:00 Intro
00:53 My false beliefs about self care
01:53 "This is the Kyle Kittleson thought process"
04:32 "I had an epiphany"
06:48 "This realization was such a relief"

Whether you're looking to adjust your current self care routines or are looking for self care habits to start doing in 2022, this video should help!

I love when you are relaxed and being yourself when you reflect like this. It makes the learning fun.

This reminds me of a video I watched elsewhere about the difference between self-care and self-indulgence. Most people, when they think of self-care, are actually thinking about self-indulging activities and don't even realize that the beauty of real self-care is that it can be found in the simplicity of the little things.

This reminds me of reparenting our inner child -- as parents, we often have to help kids do healthy things even when they might want something else, and similarly, we can gently reparent our inner child by helping them set a schedule and eat well etc, even when our inner child just wants something else.

This is wonderful and helpful. I was laughing out loud when you described how you work out but don't enjoy it. Loved how you said, "Ima guy that goes to the gymmm!" You are intelligent, very helpful, inspiring and entertaining! And I love your authenticity.

I love Med Circle …I joined after watching you and Dr. Ramani’s conversations. You two have a great rapport…she is so grounded and real.

Here's my epiphany: the things I need to do most are the things I want to do least. And vice versa!
Like George Costanza being "opposite man"
And Kyle I love your contributions

This is so interesting because I literally just started getting my hair washed and blown out at my salon once a week because I have a baby and I can’t wash my hair. It was so bad they had to shampoo it three times! And I had to prioritize it because I knew it was affecting my self esteem and I just felt crappy not having my hair right. I’m so glad I watched this thank you guys everyone at med circle! You’re all superstars!!

Thank you. This makes my re-parenting a little better equipped. I keep feeling like I'm dragging a toddler around who's screaming that she wants or doesn't want. If I say, "this is self care, " my toddler within may say, "oh! Ok." Its not negative or positive. ♡

I've struggled with chronic fatigue for years, and was called lazy because sometimes I needed more sleep or didn't do as much as "they" decided I should, and it made me feel so ashamed of something that I didn't actually have much control over. I still have a biiig thing about being thought of or referred to as lazy and do more than I should just to avoid that, even when know i'll end up sick or injured from it. Since I'm sick of being sick, I'm actually gaining a bit more confidence to accept my limitations and do what I need to be comfortable, not what others "need" to be comfortable with me. Geez it's hard though, some days 😅

I think the self-care can be different things at different times depending on your state of mind & physical & emotional health. I think listening to your innate wisdom in the moment is paramount. Instead of thinking what you "should do", I think "feeling" what's right in the moment is what is often the best course is action.

I’m 58 I have arthritis but I push myself through 40 minutes on the elliptical because I know it’s good for me. I feel good at the end.

You highlighted how the words we use and the narrative we construct define our self perception. Being mindful of that is self care, too.

I just love your approach to life! You've helped me clarify things in so many ways. You're excellent at cutting through the crap & self imposed expectations.
I'm finally able to collect personal behavior data with your simplified, no rules, no frills bullet journal. I've even modified & simplified the process to fit my preferences. (List of behaviors are along the far left side of the left page. Dates run to the right, with plenty of room for the whole month & even some notations. Every month, along the way, I've added or scratched out behaviors to made a better fit. It's not pretty - but it's super easy & it works.)
You approach to self care appeals to me, too. It's uncomplicated common sense without a lot of now & wow. It's eat you protein & veggies, as well as relishing your chocolate, chocolate chip cheese cake. - I'm more willing to do those things that make me healthier, but I find unpleasant, if I don't have to apologize for doing the things that make me happy. Self indulgence can be self destructive, but depending on the indulgence, it can also be self care. Healthy lies somewhere within the balance of 'need to' & 'want to'.
Thanks for the big dose of balance you put out there for us.

I didn't really think of self care this way before and now that you've mentioned it it really makes sense
Also, the working out rant made me laugh out loud, and it's so relatable
