KEYHOLE PUZZLE SOLUTION

Here I'm going to show you the Hanayama Keyhole puzzle solution.

The Hanayama Keyhole puzzle is a level 4 out of possible 6 on the Hanayama difficulty scale.

The Keyhole solution involves 6 moves in total alternating between the gold and silver pieces. The moves themselves are relatively easy to do, the difficult part is knowing the order of the moves and where to take each piece.

I just bought six hanayama puzzles last night for... gifts... for... me? No hah. Mostly for others, four intended to give away. And two minutes ago I solved one of them, the Cast Square, last night in just a few minutes longer than yourself in your video I solved the cast Infinty. Super stoked. And I’ve forgotten most the steps in Vortex so that’ll be fun to relearn. And all of a sudden YouTube sends me a notification about this video. Funny Christmas coincidence. Great video. We bought this one over Christmas. Was able to solve on my own, after a good amount of time, but my motions were not fluid. The first time I solved, I put it back with the Hanayama logo facing the wrong way. Hahahaha... That made things interesting. My main issue with some Hanayama puzzles, even though I love them, I'll often do a full solve, but have no idea how I did it. This video really helped me learn to do it it with finesse.

Enjoying your videos, Ross. Did you know that there was a faster solution to this one? At 2.22 in your video (when the gold piece is at the curved end of the silver), it's possible to twist the gold piece out of the silver one from that position, without using any force. Am I the only one who has found this shortcut?

I always solve this puzzle by holding the gold Hanayama piece static & moving only the Keyhole piece across the length of the Hanayama piece. Your way of solving it in the video is kinda confusing visually.

The very first move is wrong; you're not supposed to push the gold piece horizontally & twist it 45°.
Look at the gold piece with the Hanayama logo facing us & on the top, you'll notice a deep notch to the right of the logo. This is where you're supposed to connect the deep notch to the left of the "Keyhole" on the silver piece.
From there the rest of the moves are correct, but your first one is not as I would need to apply A LOT of force to twist it through.
