Cars do not need to be expensive here are some tips:

Buying:
- Always buy used
- Look for car's that didn't sell well but from reliable brands. Examples: Mitsubishi, Saturn, Suzuki, Lexus. You want a car that people call, underrated.
- If you can always pay cash upfront

Usage:
-Allow the car at least 1-3 mins to warm up, never redline on a cold engine, drive in the 3-4k rpm range untill the coolant temp is at optimal.
-Keep a book in the car, always be calm when on the road to avoid mistakes.
-Always look around and under the car at each drive for leaks, the earlier they're caught the cheaper it is to fix.

Maintaining:
- Regardless of Climate, Rust proof yearly.
- Wash the body of your car every week or every second week. Amazon sells a hose attachment where you can put soap in and foam up the car very quickly. Dry with a shammy.
- Silicone spay all rubber
- Be acquainted with your local junkyard, scavenge as many parts as you can so you can replace most of the parts available to you.
- Buy an OBDII scanner, scan the car periodically
- Invest in a good polish do bi-yearly or yearly. Nu Finish is perfectly fine
- Every fill up or every wash, check your fluids, be acquainted with how to do proper readings and always be ontop of your fluids even transmission, REMEMBER do not do a full flush for the transmission do it a bit at a time!

Oil:
Do not listen to the manufacturer city drivers 3-4k KM / highway 5-6 MAX each change use good oil, ideally do it yourself.

Interfacing with your mechanic:

- Find a place that people generally respect
- get to know your mechanic, hes a person too and chances are hes overworked and underpaid
- As time goes on, dont be stingy, bring a coffee, some snacks once and a while
- If its a more local family business, negotiate cash payments for work done. I would only do this if you really trust the guy after several years because if the job is not done right you're fucked.

Your car is no different than a home, if you clean your house every week, then you should be taking care of your car every week
