Rode M1 Dynamic Mic Review / Test

Показать описание
Today I review a dynamic microphone from Rode, the M1. This seems to be a direct competitor to the Shure SM58, however, this mic has a slightly more pronounced high end that seems to get a tad harsh at times.

Buy the Rode M1

Buy the Cloudlifter CL-1

Buy the Scarlett Solo

But everyone keeps asking us for more stickers!....

My Grand Kids love those stickers so I can't complain. This Mic seemed loud on the handling part of the test. So much great gear so little time! Thank you for the review.

I initially got this mic to record songs a couple of years ago, but in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been using it plugged directly into the USB port of my laptop, I use audacity to add gain and increase dB. It’s been working pretty good for me lately for my podcast

I like how you talk and present yourself in your videos, learning a lot from you. Btw Rode M1 sounds very good to me.

When I was testing dynamic mics on my computer using XLR to 3.5mm, it worked for me. Plugged it in to the mic jack and was using Audacity to record. I was using a Dell from 2009. So far, all the dynamic mics I tested worked.

When I heard 'dynamic mic' at 0:15 I went 'ooh dynamic!' and thought 'Why the hell did I do that for?' :-D

I love this mic. Good bass and nice harmonics/artifacts on the high mids when recording guitars.

I could own a thousand mics, but it would not stop me from tuning in to see what Bandrew's reaction to the sticker will be. They are becoming increasingly hilarious! Oh, and your mic/interface reviews continue to be the best on YouTube, by a longshot...but that almost goes without saying.

Compared to the Sm58, I personally like the M1 simply because with a little EQ it sounds identical to the 58. For the same price you get a lifetime warranty. An sm58 will probably never fail, but if it did, you would be out a hundred bucks. I now run the m1 as my main live vocal mic.

I feel like the a recommandation to get a condenser mic is been given to fast and to easily... I would go with the rule of thumb that almost any dynamic mic will sound better than any 10K condenser mic if the room / studio is left untreated acoustically

Sounds good, but I agree with you in regards to the rode vx sm58.
The $100 mic market is already pretty crowded too.
That said, the lifetime warranty is nice to have.

Hey Bro - thanks for the great review! Question: have you tried killing off the offending highs with the EQ? Seems like that might do it? Again, subscribed and waiting for your next piece of great advice. Rock on 🤘
