Now, the way he answered the murder question tells me that he may not have taken a life directly, but that he was involved in the taking of lives and had probably given orders that led to it, based on his rank and the way he held the ping-pong bat. It becomes obvious when he clarified that you cannot avoid certain evils when you are partaking in the life he had.
