How can we measure trust and social capital? In recent years, social capital and trust have been identified as key elements in the building of better lives. Joseph Stiglitz and Yann Algan participated in a thematic workshop on "Measuring Trust and Social Capital", which was held by Sciences Po on 10 June 2016 in collaboration with OECD and the High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress.

Joseph Stiglitz is a professor at Columbia University. He says that it recent years the importance of trust has started to gain recognition. He says that the important thing now is to work out a way to measure trust so that different variables can help to determine economic behaviour and well being.

Yann Algan was another key figure in the workshop. He says that well-being is clearly linked to security and trust and in recent years as figures have emerged, more confidence has been gained. Public policies can be adapted and shaped with these factors in mind to allow corporations and governing bodies from around the world to relate to each other more clearly and more favourably. Yann Algan says that he is proud that Science Po could be part of such as important workshop and help to create a platform for future collaborations.
