Chinook Helicopter with CONEX container

Simulation of a Chinook helicopter carrying a CONEX container with multi-element sling model. Recently developed capability to model slung loads under helicopters. A high fidelity FLIGHTLAB helicopter simulation model has been coupled with a configurable finite element sling model, 6-DOF slung load dynamic model and helicopter automatic flight controller system. The non-linear sling model enables any sling arrangement to be modelled comprising cables, spreader bars and other elements. The simulation capability can be used for flight test risk mitigation, optimising sling and load arrangements, assessing the criticality of divergent conditions and conducting initial pre-flight crane test analysis.
