Important little note: If you already have folders with Movies and TV Shows on your NAS...you can simply point the Plex libraries to those existing folders. You don't have to create a separate folder in the Plex directory for your media content. Great video!

Hi. New to your channel as I consider NAS purchase, what I have seen so far is great, thanks. Just a suggestion (bearing in mind I've never seen Plex at all before) when you talk about the lack of auto update on music folders - at timestamp 13:03 the settings screen has a tickbox called 'Include music libraries in automatic updates' which is un-checked, could this be the issue? (The fact that it mentions Linux struggling with large amounts of folders is perhaps the reason for it being disabled by default).

Can Plex be told to use a folder with the media files that are not inside the parent self-created "Plex" folder? Also, can you show us how to access the media through Plex on a Roku device instead through a computer using a web browser?

Huge thanks for doing this! Your videos are extremely helpful. Keep up! :) One question though. Why would you prefer Plex server over the standard Synology media server? Have Plex server installed on my two Macs and Synology media server in the same local network. TV plays from Synology flawlessly, but cannot see Plex files on TV, even after rescanning library 100 times... Have you tested it on Synology. Does it work stable and fast as the media server? Just wondering what would be the advantages of using it. Thanks

Just found you this weekend and all your excellent materials. Thank you!
Is Plex need to display and download images only for a photography site?

I am new to this level of setting up a media server. I am looking at these two Synology units. Synology DS218 and the Synology DS718. Can you recommend a unit? I want to start off small and be able to expand as needed in the future. I have someone from the Plex forums who's going to help me setup my media server and I am gathering all of equipment. I have the Nvidia Shield Pro and now I have to get the NAS. Thanks for your help and your video is clear and concise!

I'm able to instal PLEX but it cannot run for some reason.
On the other hand under "all packages" it doesn't find ANYTHING. My NTP and Network Settings are all alright...but my NAS seems to be buggy

Can that NAS be "linked" somehow with your Google Drive (or other cloud-based storage) in such a way that all your media folders mirror what you store in the cloud?? That would be amazing, since (a) they canceled Plex Cloud, and (b) many users keep backups of all media online, using mirror apps like Backup & Sync.

I have recently started with Plex, never used it before. Got it now running on my Windows PC, because i wanted the best possible power behind it. My NAS is a Synology DS1817+, which is great, but not really made for Plex so to speak when it comes to more than 1080p. When I bought that NAS, it was also not the main objective behind the purchase, so I didnt get one specifically looking into Plex later. Anyways, I want to at least try it. So I installed Plex on the Synology, latest version, and its supposed to be running as well. Yet, when I try to connect to it to set it up, I cant, because the browser wont let me connect to it. I dont have the port forwarded, because I also dont want to give public access to Plesk or anything else on that NAS over the internet. Its all only supposed to be inside the Local Network, just like i have it with Plex on my Windows PC. But I simply cant connect to it.

Browser simply says: "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" when I try to connect to it. What could it be ? I dont need to forward that port 32400 to the router, just to access it locally, do i ? Because I didnt do that for the Windows Plex Server either, and that works fine. So whats the "probably" little stupid thing I am overlooking, in order to make that work ?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Don’t know if you’re still monitoring these comments, but I tried to install the built-in Plex on my new DS220+. It has said “installing” for about 5 days now and is never done. I don’t see an option to stop the installation. Do you know what could be wrong? I’d like to do the manual install that you suggested here. But first, I need to cancel the currently running installation.

Do you have any suggestions on which version to download for Synology 1621+ running DSM 7? It has an AMX Ryzen V1500B processor, and all the downloads are for either Intel 64 or 32, or ARM v8 or Armv7 but doesnt show any for Ryzen. However, if I log into DSM 7 and go to package center, there is a Plex in Beta. I was just hoping to make sure I got the most current release of the package. Thanks!
