Survival gear. Mental survival. Self reliance. Bushcraft how-to. Situational Awareness. Wilderness survival. How to cope with hardship. Mental toughness and mental resiliency. Outdoor skills. Hiking and backpacking. Vehicle preparedness. Mobility prepping.

Clear goggles are NOT a gimmick. Although sketch as heck, anyone who has moved through the woods at night knows how easy it is to get your eye poked by a random branch.

It’s awful that they put “U.S. Coastguard approved” on the packaging as a marketing ploy. I really hope no one falls for that.

Cool video. Nice edits and graphics. Appreciate the honesty as well. There is a distinct scarcity of survival kit testing in YouTube land. This was a good one. I’ll be subbing and hoping for more like this.

The quake survival kit being $120 is about as expected and certain Walmarts used to carry the backpack style kits as well that were $99 so it really depends on where you get it, I’d honestly say that at least $20 of the price went into the backpack that was a generic red as well.

Ozark Trail and UST-Ultimate Survival Technology are the two major “survival” brand names pushed by Walmart where as the better quality and name brand Coleman is being fazed out.

Ozark Trail does have at least a nice looking hatchet with a hickory wood handle and the hatchet is also very sturdy and a hefty chopper.

Thanks for the video, a few years ago I attended a seminar on preparedness offered for free by my home state. They gave away backpacks full of stuff and most it came from quake preparedness. I have improved the backpack since then but was impressed that with the company. Thanks again. New Friend

One package of contents are officially Coast Guard-approved (the water packets and food bar). Sadly, that's the ONLY reason I can see why the whole package is tagged as CG Approved though. I'm sure the Coasties over at CG-ENG-4 would tell you this pack does not meet 46 CFR Sub Q's requirements with exception of the water packets and from the sound of your whistle, I'm going to say it's not approved. With all kidding aside, are great. 4.2ozs x2 a day will keep you alive. They have a 5-year shelf life and can be kept in your car as heat and cold do not break down the packets. I do have those packets and bars. They are yummy. Just thought I'd share that little bit of info.. cheers

Id probably go for a better quality mylar blanket. The ones that are a bit bigger with orange on one side. They're not so delicate. I'd go for a small ferro rod over matches. Maybe pry the skinny one off those magnesium bar ones. Microcord is pretty good and this stuff is probably more expensive but kevlar cotton. Also a Stanley replacement blade. Cutting was the missing C 🙂

Walmart gear is this generations "Kmart blue light specials".

$76.00 ain't too bad. I'd throw some leather gloves in there and a collapsible water bag, but its pretty good for a natural disaster kit.

For $100 you can put together a great kit from only Walmart supplies. There are only a handful of pre made kits that are actually good (ESEE, Solkoa, Best Glide etc) but they're expensive. Best route is to always piece together your own. I know you were just doing a review of that kit though and you made a great video that points out how hard it would be to rely on these junky kits. Appreciate the content!

“Coast guard approved” that don’t mean a whole lot 💀

It's not about the gear. It's about the person using it. Survival gear is for temporary use. Not long term.

Walmart kit is better than nothing but its junk, those tiny ferro rods are usable but not in adverse conditions. Water is water. That one bar isn't much calorie wise especially when you will need them to keep warm. the Amazon one is actually pretty passable. It would keep you warm and dry, there's water plus a contingency and a lot of calories. Thats the rule of 3s covered and the 5 Cs

This is meant to be used as an emergency evac kit not a woodland survival kit

I can see this kit maybe in an office, maybe there is an emergency and you have some stuff to pass the night?
