I’d also like to add a little tidbit. If the robber is on your spot (let’s say it’s a brick hex and you already have brick in hand) you shouldn’t feel obligated to use the knight just because it’s blocking you, sometimes I like to save it when the robber is blocking a spot that I really need resources for.

Just to add some tips there are situations where rolling 1st may still be the play. If you are at 7 cards, consider the risk assesment of 7ing out if your hand has empty weight. Move it anyway, if your hand is too important roll 1st. One other situation where using a knight after roll could be beneficial is if you have nonknight dev cards that are actionable ie mono or yop. choosing to roll 1st can give these cards actions which helps the decision whether or not you use them. One last situation where using a knight after roll could be better is someone has 0 cards in hand perferrably the leader playing 0 card meta. you roll 1st and then take the card they rolled 100% if its a card of value to you.

This is a “tip”? More like beginner common sense. Should have said “only do this if the robber is blocking a key resource that you need soon, AND you have less than 7 cards. Nothing is worse than using the knight only to have to cough up 4
