That's why competitions and a lot of testing will require you to do a full reset of the calculators and watch you do it. I've seen people run to get another calculator or not use one because they can't lose programs on their calculators.

In high school and college, I wasn't allowed to use my TI-84 for the exact reason that it could be programmed. You were only allowed basic scientific calculators. All before ChatGPT was even a thing. 😂
Edit: I forgot to specify that we couldn't use them for tests or exams. They were fine for homework or class.

The thing is you can’t really easily type letters on them. Its actually easy to install programs to do specific equations, but typing to ask chat gpt would be near impossible in the middle of an exam, on the ti-84 keyboard

There was a prof in engineering school that would allow you to bring "anything you can fit through the door that does not connect to the internet" to a test. They had to augment this policy...when someone brought a grad student.

Calculators aren't needed in most subjects. And in the one that they are mainly allowed for they do most of the work anyway 🤷‍♂️

If you start adding up sums in a Language, History, or English exam than it'll just look suspicious anyway 🤦‍♂️

my old teacher made us completely factory reset out TIs before tests. its a process that takes like 5 seconds

I wouldn't call it heavily modified, it just added a small PCB into the existing slot in the case and connected a few wires.

Absolutely awesome. Another reason for me to get one (or two). They were never a thing here in the UK.
