I was lucky to get this advice when I was very young - I deliberately practiced learning to learn - I am middle aged now and last year (2022), to prove to my kids that once you learn to learn you can learn anything, starting from absolutely zero skills, I learnt roller blading, ice-skating and skiing all within one year. Needless to say they are sold!

When I was in college, I became really interested in learning new skills and dedicated a lot of time to it, which noticeably improved what I knew and what I could do. After college though, I became very busy with work and haven’t had the same amount of free time to dedicate to learning new skills. After seeing this video, I feel motivated to get back into the mindset I had.

This is who I suck at guitar. After listening to this entire conversation I focused, and decided to try tuning to a random CGCGeb.. it worked! I can play a completely unique Indo-Persian Raga voice now!

Very true. I'm a self taught programmer. Since 6 years ago. It makes me good money 😊 Also self taught in languages and other hobbies. Now I practice Chess. I want to get good.

I taught myself so many new skills ONE in particular was SQL and DB programming (ultimately built a DB with GUI) because someone wanted to charge me 60k to build an inventory system for my business.

I realised very early through different jobs that I have always been a quick learner. But I think a better way to put what he's trying to say is to work on the efficiency of your mind. I'm constantly thinking about efficiency in process and how I can be doing something better.

These short clips are often great, but the utility of this one really stands out for me. Really good stuff.

The word doesn't only mean punishment. Discipline - ▸ noun: training to improve strength or self-control

That's the reason I stopped gaming at all. I still watched movies or TV series for like hours until it was complete but the gaming was too much and after 1500 hours in CS, I just looked back at the time I spend and thought what would had happened if I olayed Badminton for 1500 hours or if I took a bunch of excel courses.

So that's what I did. I spend like 100 hours on Excel, got a job.
Then spent like 200 hours on learning PHP, got another job.
Then spent 500+ hours on learning Java and got a permanent position that I liked.

Learning to learn is worth millions if not billions of dollars.
