This is a great series of videos. It makes me want to pick up some Hemmingway -- at some point, when I get out from under the pile of books I'm trapped under. : )

What an amazing series! I didn't know a lot about Hemingway's marriages.
Shakespeare and Company is one of the most fascinating, inspiring places I've been to.

This is so fascinating. I feel bad on these videos because I have nothing of value to comment, but I'm thoroughly enjoying them.

Wow! I loved this! I've been reading about Hemingway and his life for about 5 years now. Started out with A Moveable Feast, but have yet to read any of his fiction. Heard about your channel from Doris! And what a treat. You are so articulate.

Fascinating stuff Brian, his relationship with women was obviously complex, successful perhaps more in his friendship than in his marriages.

This was fascinating. I especially found wife #3 interesting. I need to go back and watch the first two in the series. This far I’ve only read The Old Man and the Sea which I got along with swimmingly (pun intended) as my dad and brothers are commercial fishermen. I have For Whom the Bell Tolls on my shelves to read one of these days. I’ll have to assess after that one if I feel compelled to pick up any more.

I absolutely do not think Hadley lost his scripts on purpose. She was so supportive that would have been so out of character!! Although I do think her losing the manuscripts probably triggered events that lead to their separation.

@ 1:00 there’s a figure that passes in your door frame . Off topic I know but I just thought I’d point that out, I don’t think anyone else has .

A good look at the women in his life. I found it interesting that you point out that Hemingway was around older women who could further his career earlier in life then looked for the younger ones once he made it. If nothing else can be said about the man he was definitely a player lol.

I certainly appreciate your work. Perhaps I'll warm to Papa Ernesto once you get to his work? (I confess: I shouldn't read or listen to author biographies. I disillusion easily.) Thanks for all your research.

This is such a fantastic series! By the way, I forgot: did you read Mrs Hemingway by Naomi Wood?

Are being cruel to your female romantic partners and being a misogynist the same thing? I'm really not sure. It sounds like Hemingway had some good non-romantic relationships with women, presumably respecting the female writers he knew like Gertrude Stein.
