Connecting A Microphone To The DJI Osmo Pocket

In this video, we are taking a look at the newly released microphone adapter for the DJI Osmo Pocket that allows you to use an external microphone. For the most part, the Osmo Pocket has good audio, using it outside on a windy day can be challenging and that's where being able to use a microphone with wind cover really comes in handy. In this video I go over a few different microphones that you may want to use with your DJI Osmo Pocket and a few different ways to you can attach a microphone to your DJI Osmo Pocket. This is perfect for those who want to build a vlogging rig while utilizing the stabilization capabilities that the Osmo Pocket offers.

Fast forward to 2022 and DJI already came up with their own wireless audio system. Dope!

I also own a DJI Osmo Pocket and for being an internal microphone it's pretty good, but when you start recording it in a more windy and noisy background, you'll find that DJI Osmo Pocket's internal mic really isn't feasible. I'd say that doing a sound comparison test outside and in more noisy environment would allow better distinctive comparison

Very pleased that the DJI Mic is here. Will no longer need that Rode mic.

I'm thinking about purchasing the Osmo Pocket and I want to make sure I can capture audio properly. This video, like all your videos, is excellent, giving me exactly the options and information I was looking for!! Thank you. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos and the knowledge you provide to all of us.

Thank you for explaining the TRS vs TRRS. I had to figure that out on my own after a lot of frustration.

Outstanding. You are the first one to show options that work when the dead cat gets in the way. And I 100% agree with you that most option destroys the Pocket from being a small, easy to carry, unit. I like the Lav the best.

I honestly think the osmo pocket internal mic sounds the best! I always quite liked it but I find as soon as you get more than a meter away from it that's when it's starting to be bad. I think the other mics will do better once you move a bit further away or move to a windier location.

Of all the reviewers for the Osmo Pocket you provide the most informed information. I truly look forward to seeing them. They are very helpful. Thank you for your efforts.

The adapter it's an accident waiting to happen to damage the USB port as soon as you bump into something.

Forget the OSMO, I learned a lot from this video on microphones, setups, and sound differences. Really great review. I now know what a TRS vs. TRRS is . Thanks! Thumbs up!

Helpful video. Thank you. Helpful to know about audio options, but in my opinion if you've gotta add a phone and an external mic to the Osmo Pocket, there's just no point to the Osmo Pocket. The way I see it is that the ONLY reason to use this thing is because it's small and light. If it ceases to be small and light, then there are MUCH better options for the larger size. I think Osmo Pocket is awesome, but if I'm not happy with the built in quality, I just wouldn't use it and opt for something larger.

Thank you for the video. I had no idea that there were different types of audio plugs. I wasted hours recording videos before I finally checked them and realized there was no sound. Your video helped me solve the problem. Many thanks.

Not only DJI charges you a premium for what is a cheap piece of plastic and makes it impossible to use a third party equivalent adapter but, at least outside of the USA this item is impossible to find. I even managed to buy it from a local reseller, I am in the UK, to be told the day before delivery (a good three weeks after I ordered it) that it was out of stock and would not be back in stock for another month at least. Furthermore, two-three days later, I received a stock reminder from DJI (as I had registered with their service before finding out that a UK reseller had one in stock) that the item was back in stock. Nevertheless, when I tried to buy it from their store (I received the reminder at 11.30pm and I saw the email only two hours later when I tried to buy it from their online store) I could not buy it and customer service told me that it was out of stock and tried to convince me to buy it from an American resellers for close to double its price (plus possible import tax by UK customs).

Perfect! Just what I was looking for, I'm guessing this would work with a wireless set up, attaching the receiver to the pocket?

The term TRS goes back to the dark ages of analog telephony when corded "switchboards" were used to bridge connections from incoming calls to whatever number was requested. The term "tip" refers to the bulb-shaped tip of the connector. Beyond that was the mi Theddle section, called "ring" probably where the ring current was passed to activate the bell in old-style analog telephone sets. The bottom section was called "signal, " because when the cord connector was fully inserted, there was a "signal" or the call went through. The definitions and illustrations were contained in a two-ring binder called the MSH book which contained handy diagrams for voice connections used in Central Offices or by field Technicians on Customer Premises.

The Bell System used to classify this as proprietary knowledge. You had to as part of an employment agreement, promise never to divulge company proprietary information. To do so was an "SR" violation (Standard Regulations) which could get you fired. It is amazing the memories of random words and images bring out of mental storage
