COVID-19: More than 100,000 UK daily cases reported

The UK has reported more than 100,000 daily COVID cases for the first time since of the start of the pandemic.

Some 106,122 cases have been recorded in the latest 24-hour period - around 13,000 more than the previous high of 93,045 on 17 December.

A further 140 coronavirus-related deaths have also been recorded.

I'm more concerned about how many suicides there have been this year; how many young people have died through drug and alcohol abuse. I'm far more concerned about the lack of funding and staffing for mental health services in the UK.

The UK health minister this morning told Sky News that there are 129 people in hospital with omicron. Not "because of", but rather "with". 129 people. That is the only number that matters.

I'm considering researching the last two years worth of daily infections, but I'm unsure of making the effort because I'm fairly confident that the numbers might just be greater than the current population of the UK, if not, somewhere close.

Omicron cases are not to be feared, having a mild variant is an easy way to obtain immunity. The UK is the only country that has reported an Omicron death, this once again questions the statistics and the counting methodology. Only deaths caused by COVID19 should be recorded, a positive test within 28 days doesn't equate to death by COVID19. They may have been killed by a bus walking away from the testing station.

I'm wondering if they're now 'fixing' the test results. Seems impossible to me that quite suddenly 100, 000 people are infected in hardly any time at all for a weaker strain, 🤔.
