Hi. I had this problem, but now it is fixed! There is play inside the gearbox. You must remove the trunk, cables, opto interrupter, opto board, gearbox chassis (holder) and then finally the gearbox itself. On the axle going through the gearbox, remove the circlip at the top, then the top stop (double allen thub screw) then the bottom flange (double allen thumb screw) then you can open the gearbox up. After cleaning, the gearbox and 4 cogs, then re-greasing, you must ensure that the 2 allen thumb screws holding the axle onto cog no. 1 (the big one) are rock solid tight. This is where the play is and the cause of this problem you are describing. Once tight, and all assembled again, the trunk will have almost zero backlash (almost not possible to twist by hand left or right!) It will also turn easier, quieter and have no opto faults. This is not theory, I have done this (recently) and my ToM now is perfect.
