Whats the difference between pictograph & petroglyph?!

This actually was really cool to look into and whats crazy is that there is no way to tell wether pictographs are older or newer than petroglyphs. I had assumed petroglyphs would be older but i was wrong. Usually these carvings represent a common camping spot or high traffic area for the tribe. Hence the reason for names like “newspaper rock”. Also the most intact pictographs have been found in caves. Which makes sense because the wall has been naturally protected from the elements. Lost
