Officials in Beijing have denounced U.S. President Joe Biden for describing Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “dictator,” calling it a breach of diplomatic protocol. Biden’s remark at a fundraising event this week came just days after Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited China to help thaw relations at a time of growing competition and suspicion between the two superpowers. “What Biden said, in fact, is true in every word,” says Ho-fung Hung, professor of political economy and sociology at Johns Hopkins University, though he adds that China’s response is also expected, as Biden’s comments are a “violation of diplomatic protocol.”

I don't think this particular individual understands how China's economy works.

I'm more shocked that you put on such a biased spokesperson. Biden has absolutely no idea what is actually going on in the world. It's a shame and an embarrassment for America!

That guy was anti China. Even when she asked him what role China could play with bringing peace to Ukraine he didn’t even address that. He just attacked China. Horrible guest

Bringing on an anti-China professor to openly lie about Xi Jinping is definitely an interesting decision 😅

Why would anyone interview such a warmonger at a time when people are ready for more trade ( not weapons)

Who gave this country the power to classify countries as dictatorships or democracies?
a country that does not pay its debts, that has more than 40 million poor people, that has shootings in schools almost daily, that has its streets full of drugs, that has millions of people sleeping in stores on the street, that has a prison in Guantanamo where they abuse human rights...

One day before they disrespect the Chinese president in this way, the Chinese president has received Mr. Blinken with great respect.

Who told you to take the responsibility of cataloging the countries in one way or another?

Talk is cheap, the USA is in decline, not only China but the whole international community should just move on without the shameless arrogant USA.

There is more democracy in China than in the USA. The latter is an oligarchy... American government at all levels is captured by business and military interests

China had no interest in meeting with any US officials. CIA Chief was quietly dispatched to Beijing to ask for a Blinken visit. China reluctantly but graciously agreed to it.

What did China get in return for being gracious — a kick in the gut by the US.

The level of insincerity and duplicity from Washington is appalling. And it’s all there for the world to see.

Shame on you Democracy Now! Why not bring another view (I’m not advocating silencing of China critics) to counterbalance the old Cold War and 19th century propaganda that carves up the world in neat ‘democracy’ and ‘dictatorship’ packages as if the world did not exist before these divides.

It’s hard to take seriously someone who believes deep-down that China has no redeeming values, then lying about corporate moves to India when the likes of Apple are abandoning India for China again. The Chinese political and socioeconomic systems have endured for thousands of years.

How can this anti-Chinese troll of a professor judge it by Western standards — a construct that is the very foundation of imperialism? Please bring him back to debate someone who is more objective about the multipolar world we’re entering now.

Gordon Chang had found his successor. I definitely will not spend a dime for tuition at John Hopkins as his student listening to his teaching! Ha!
