I was there from 1976-1977 the first time! After 18 months a NAS Jacksonville I terminated shore duty to return to Alameda the home port of the USS Coral Sea CV-43 to ship I left 18 months ago, this was in July 1979! After a full tour of duty on Coral Sea, I transferred to NAS Alameda Air Operations Department where I was the LCPO of the Transient Line Division! Three year in the Line Div. 83-86, I transferred to the USS Enterprise CVN-65! In May of 89 my family and I left for my last duty station in the NAVPRO Office at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Mo.

Brings back a lot of memories of hanger 33 and our SH 3A, s in Heliantisubron 85. Never would I have thought that 50 years later I have a son who flies H 60’s. Great traditions. I’m thankful to have had the experience 1971-1977.

I was stationed there from 91 to 94. USS Samuel Gompers. Went back a few years ago with my kids. We toured the Hornet and I introduced them to what life was like for dad. But it was emotional for me because my eyes saw it as it is today but in my mind I saw it as it was. I could hear and see sailors in dungarees, officers the sounds the activity of when it was a functional naval base

And of course here, across the bay at Alameda, you were able to find the nuclear wessels.
