ISP Increases Patrols After Alarming Trend of Roadway Deaths

So far in the summer of 2024, 40 people have died on Idaho roads, bringing the total fatalities this year-to-date to a total of 114.

The Idaho Department of Transportation says the 2024 numbers are unusually high, surpassing the previous year's numbers.

Americas driving mentality…. “The rules are for everyone else, not me”

Is it any wonder that people are getting killed on our highways now given the massive increase in population. Cramming more and more people into the same area with decades behind infrastructure not much good can happen. When you add bad driving habits that new comers bring with them into the mix, this happens. I live on busy state highway and I can guarantee you that I can walk out in front of my house and observe cars passing by with drivers gawking at their phones. There are hundred foot long panic stop skid marks in front of our house because someone did not see a car turning off the highway onto a side road. Some cars are driving so fast it sounds like a jet airplanes going by. There are several country subdivisions in our area causing more and more traffic on rural roads that drivers drive like their are on the interstate. Fortunately I am retired so there are times of the day that we just stay off the roads.
