Russia sanctions Australian journalists

Russia is sanctioning hundreds more Australians including journalists from Sky News, The Sydney Morning Herald, Nine News and the ABC.

Defence officials, businessmen and select politicians are also being sanctioned.

You would think Australian journalists are some kind of pure truth tellers. Accurate and unbiased reporting is a rare thing in Australia and foreign governments should not have to put up with it. We do because it is one of our essential freedoms. What we have is our freedom to shun the media and more people are doing that now than at any time in our history. Fewer people read newspapers, fewer people are watching news bulletins. TV news has less than half the viewers it had just 20 years ago. Go back a further 20 years and almost every adult watched an evening TV news bulletin. Now hardly anyone. The media is to blame. Eventually everyone will hear an outright lie expressed by a reporter or a newsreader and all confidence is lost. No news is better than BS.
