These are the 10 reasons why I treat ALL crew members with respect.

Regarding the bad passengers who treat people poorly, the employee can rarely say anything, but as another passenger we can speak up and let them know that behavior is unacceptable. Enforce a little social contract on them. BTW, that works everywhere - mean people get away with it because nobody wants confrontation, but we all need to help bring accountability to those jerks.

I've been on so many cruises and it honestly never even occurred to me that the staff didn't get to eat the same food as the guests. I think that's ridiculous, especially seeing as how so much of the food is wasted. Also, these cruise lines bring in an obscene amount of money every year. The least they could do is provide the crew with complimentary wifi since they're away from their family and friends.

I once went on a 7 day cruise with 80 people in our group from Detroit. Me and one of my buddies got a nice room. We told our room attendant guy, Louie from Honduras, " u got a key, our room is your room. Come in anytime, hangout and we'll get you anything you want." Dude was super nice. He had a blast and so did we.

Never mistreat someone who is serving you! Never! They are the ones who can make your experience so much nicer! And tip!

My husband watched this with me and said, “try being in the navy, bro.” 😂

I feel strongly that everyone should work in the service industry at some point, if for no other reason than to learn the value of hard work and to have compassion. Rude people drive me up a wall. Thank you for sharing

Thank you for your honesty. As a past cruise guest I’ve witnessed the entitlement from other guests and their unruly children. Money can’t buy class.

Our room steward was from Indonesia. He was the sweetest man. We talked to him a lot about working on the cruise ship, he told us about working almost 7 days straight. He sent all his money home to his wife, child and parents. We wanted for nothing that whole week and we made sure to take care of him outside of ship gratuity because he deserved every penny.

i went on a cruise with my family years ago and i'll never forget the host/waiter that served us every night. he asked us our names the first night, came up with fun ways to remember them, then always called us by our names. multiply that by however many guests he was taking care of, then again by however many cruises he works--truly impressive

The crew members on board a cruise ship are some of the hardest working people I have ever seen. The room stewards are always cleaning and the waiters who work in the dining room at night are up in the other restaurants during the day, so when do they have time to eat and sleep? So much respect for their work ethic.

I love how this video got straight to the point and how clearly you spoke.

I understand the bulk of the workers are Filipinos/Filipinas and Eastern Europeans. Tons of Filipinos/Filipinas. These guys and gals are the utter salt of the earth and really good people. Do. Not. Ever. look down on people from the Philippines because they are short and brown, because they would go into a burning building to rescue you.

Great topic. I've never met any crew member on a cruise that was ever rude, mean or disrespectful. One family took their cabin attendant on a shore excursion. I'll never forget Alwyn who decorated a Dutch hat for me and one for my daughter. He visited us in San Diego. He told me that one family cruised with him every year. They'd find out which ship he was on, and they'd take that trip. God bless all of the crew members.

I have developed a massive respect for the Filipinos after working with them. They work so hard. Everyday for 9 months. They were generous to me and I got a chance to play drums in their band a few times.

*BIG UP TO ALL THE HARDWORKING FILIPINOS AND FILIPINAS ON CRUISE SHIPS*

I’ve been cruising for over 20 years and I have great respect for all the people who work on the cruise lines

Daughter of two crew members here! To your point about living arrangements, my baby crib had to be positioned literally in the closet of our cabin because that’s the only place it would fit. My mom was a singer, my dad was the ship’s entertainment director and even with his rank, we had barely any room. I had so hoped that things had improved since the 80’s!!

The second I step onboard a cruise ship, I do whatever I can to make the crew members' day. Even though we are the ones paying money to be there, it costs us nothing to have a little humility and treat the crew like the humans they are. If anything, it pays dividends. Serving the people who are serving you makes the vacation a whole lot more enjoyable.
