Creepiest line in the entire book. Sums it all up nicely.

Didn't pick it up the first time I saw it, but it's intriguing how Winston lays back down on the table and without being told to do so he raises his arms to be shackled again. Going through the motions of what big brother wants him to do, almost as if he doesn't even realize he's doing it, without a fuss or protest to avoid the inevitable pain and suffering he's going to experience again.

One of the most important moments of the move and nearly completely overlooked. Winston Smith willingly lays down to accept and submit to his torture. He wants to be what Big Brother determines he should be. Not to think for himself but to have others tell him what to think.

I can totally see Anthony Hopkins playing Richard Burton's role if ever there was a remake.
